Photography & Journalism

Project Location

Sveinsstaðir is a welcoming and peaceful space located in the Úlfarsárdalur area on the outskirts of Reykjavík, about 40 minutes by bus from City Hall. Perched on a hill with beautiful views of Icelandic landscapes, it offers a perfect balance of tranquility and easy access to the city.

The house can accommodate up to 10 participants and serves as the main base for training and program activities. It features a fully equipped kitchen, one bathroom, one toilet, a living room, two mixed dormitories, and a small greenhouse. The surrounding area offers wide views, fresh air, and easy access to walking paths and green spaces — ideal for reflection, outdoor activities, and community living.

Sveinsstaðir provides a comfortable and inspiring environment for programs focused on sustainability, creativity, and intercultural exchange, allowing participants to connect with nature while staying close to Reykjavík’s cultural life, services, and public transport.

Project

This immersive one-week program in Reykjavík combines photography, visual storytelling, and journalism with Iceland’s unique natural and urban landscapes. Participants work together as a group around a shared monthly theme, exploring Icelandic culture, nature, and society through images and narrative. Throughout the week, participants develop their technical skills, journalistic eye, and creative voice. The program culminates in a public photo exhibition, fully curated by the group, where participants present their collective vision and selected works.

Leisure Time

The house is located near a great hiking area. You can either go to the nearest lake which is called Hafravatn. You can also hike the Meistaramánudagur mountain. These hikes take approx. 1 hour. Going for a swim in the local swimming pool is so relaxing. Keep in mind entrance to the pool is not included. Going to the picturesque city of Reykjavik is always fun as well. WF Iceland will also organize reasonably-priced weekend excursions to some of the most popular, beautiful areas and natural wonders that Iceland has to offer.

Accomodation and Food
